Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I have a wheel that needs reconditioning, but I live
out of state. Do you accept customer wheels that are
shipped to you?
A: Yes, you can ship your wheel to us. Call us at
877-7WHEELS (877-794-3357) and we discuss the best methods
for shipping wheels to our service center.
Q: I have a set of rims that I would like to have painted
to match my vehicle. What do you suggest?
A: If the vehicle is currently being re-painted we can use
the same paint that is being sprayed on the body of the
car to achieve a matching finish. We will let you know
ahead of time how much paint to supply us with; it depends
on the size and style of your rims.
If the vehicle is already the desired color we can have
the paint custom mixed to match it.
Although vehicles are assigned a "color code" from the
factory, those paint batches can vary greatly. We do not
recommend that you purchase paint by the color code.
Q: My stock rims are a very reflective silver finish -
almost like chrome but painted. It is flaking and peeling
off in several areas. Can you fix these?
A: Most likely you have a stock or aftermarket "Chrome
Shadow" rim. Many car manufacturers such as Lexus, Volvo
and BMW have models with use this process. PWS is a
national distributor for Chrome Shadow paint. Our mobile
representatives have stock on their vehicles for mobile
use.
The steps required in
fixing this type of paint are more extensive than regular
paint. Please allow for more time than normal to perform
the repairs.
Q: I have a bent chrome wheel. Can this be repaired?
A: If the bend is on the inside of the rim it can be
straightened. However, straightening a bent on the face of
a rim will cause the chrome finish to crack. The wheel can
be brought back to round, but cosmetically it will be less
than perfect.
Q: The dealership told me that my wheel is bent and has a
small crack in the bend. Can this rim still be used?
A: A rim with a small
crack can be welded even if it on the bent area. Call or
email us with a description of the crack and we can
discuss your options with you.
We do not weld rims at our
service center, but we do contract with professional
welding companies to perform that work for us. Please
allow for extra time to complete jobs that need to be
welded.
Q: I used a cleaner on my spun aluminum wheel and now they
look corroded and peeling. What can I do to make their
appearance presentable again?
A: Harsh detergents or winter road slag can damage the top
coat on these wheels. The clear finish turns cloudy and
can begin to flake or peel off. These rims can be stripped
of the old top coat, turned on our state-of-the-art CNC
lathe and then re-coated to bring them back to their
original appearance.
